CLUB HISTORY

Pool Tennis Club was formed on 6th June 1929. Initially the courts were owned by residents of the village Mrs Musgrave & Messers Blackwell & Rawlinson, and were rented out for £5 per annum

On the 15th July 1932 the Club purchased a field situated in Mill Lane at Pool for the sum of £125. On the 14th September the same year the grass court was laid, and the ash laid for the hard court. At the A.G.M. on the 21st March 1933 the rules were drawn up and the Club was officially called "Pool-in-Wharfedale Tennis Club". It opened on the 1st July 1933.

The Club continued to progress throughout the war.

On 23rd April 1948 the Club became affiliated to Yorkshire Lawn Tennis Association and in April 1950 the Club joined the mixed section of the Wharfedale Tennis League. In April 1965 Messrs Whiteley & Co generously provided two new courts alongside the Village Hall and Pool Tennis Club was truly re-established.
